The Breifcase Boom Box

The Breifcase boom Box or the "Brixton Breifcase" was designed and built to be able to be carried around while playing music and to remain covert. However, in order to play music and carry the boombox, the music source (CD player/MP3/iPod) had to be inside the breifcase, which wasn't extremely functional if the DJ wanted to change songs or CD's while on the move.

The interior space of the boombox is very cramped because of the amp on one side, the battery box (eight D cells) on the other, and a speaker above.

The interior of the boom box is also highly magnetic due to the 5" speaker above it. This is not good for the hard drives of iPods. Something had to be done.

The top of the breifcase had two locks on it, one for each side of the breif case. In order to be able to carry the boom box and play music conveniently externally, I decided that I would remove One of the locking mechanisms and replace it with an 1/8" stereo jack. After a lot of brute force, the stubburn samsonite case finally gave up its lock and I put the jack on the inside wall of the brief case just behind the leve of the locking mechanism.

I soldered the end to a heaphone jack and added that inside the case. The outside 1/8" jumper cable now runs through the lock latch and into the jack. The resulting hack is all but seamless. The person carrying the breifcase can now either have the music on the inside, or plug their music source into the outside and walk around possesing the utmost coolness.
