Electric Violin Case

Page history last edited by Stephen M. 14 years, 7 months ago

After completing the Electic violin build, i figured i needed something a little more classy to carry it in rather than the original cardboard case i had made previously.  The case would also need a classy logo.

I started with a quarter sheet of 1/4 inch luan plywood for the sides and 1/2 inch plywood for the hexagons.  I also used various other scrap pieces to flesh out the interior.

I cut the six identical hexagons out on the chop saw set to 30 degrees.I then started building the hexagon by attaching one side then sanding down the edge to accomadate the next side.  I repeated this process 6 times to build the hexagon.

This piece is the foundation of the violin.  The two pegs seen above right will stick up from this cradle and seat the back of the violin snugly.

I cut the middle two hexagons in half and layed out the profile of the violin on them.  I accomadated for a slot used to store the bow in the bottom of the case.

These are the holders for the chin and shoulder rests.  The rests will mount to the side of the case using the same peg and hole system used to attached the rests to the violin body.

The piece shown here will be attached to the lid of the case and will serve to hold the chin and shoulder rests firmly while the violin is in transport.

The last part of the violin to be accounted for was the bolt that holds the violin body together.  This rests in a mount on the side of the case,  As the lid closes, it becomes locked in place.

On to the thrilling conclusion of the Electric violin build.

Next I painted and outfitted the finished case.
